Electrical Safety

This course provides an introduction to electrical safety, including common hazards, the effects of electric shock, safe working practices, protective systems, and emergency response procedures. It will help you recognise electrical risks and understand how to work safely with and around electrical equipment.

This course is designed for anyone who may use or work around electrical equipment as part of their job, including office staff, site workers, maintenance personnel, new starters, supervisors, and team leaders.

On completion of the course, you will be able to:

• Understand the basic principles of electricity, including voltage, current, resistance, and circuits.
• Identify common electrical hazards and understand the risks associated with electricity in the workplace.
• Explain the effects of electric shock and the factors that influence its severity.
• Recognise different types of electrical equipment, including portable appliances, and understand their safe use.
• Describe key protective systems such as fuses and other control measures used to reduce electrical risk.
• Understand safe systems of work when working with or near electricity.
• Identify the importance of inspection, maintenance, and testing of electrical systems and equipment.
• Recall emergency response actions, including dealing with electric shock incidents.

There are no entry requirements for this course.

Learners must pass a multiple-choice assessment to receive a certificate recognising completion of this awareness course. 

This is a non-accredited course. It does not result in a formal qualification. A Certificate of Completion is awarded upon successful passing of the assessment.
