Abrasive Wheels Course

This abrasive wheels course aims to raise awareness of the risks associated with abrasive wheels and how to reduce these risks through safe practices in their storage, handling, selection, inspection and use.

The course also covers relevant health and safety legislation, including the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER), which requires employers to ensure anyone using equipment such as abrasive wheels receives adequate training.

This digital course is designed to complement your practical training and should not be considered a substitute for hands-on training, instruction and supervision.

This course is suitable for anyone who works with abrasive wheels, who may be from but not limited to the construction, manufacturing, metalworking, artisan and mechanical industries.

On completion of the course, you will be able to:

1. Identify the risks associated with abrasive wheels.
2. Recognise safe and unsafe storage, handling and maintenance procedures.
3. Define the correct selection and inspection processes.
4. Select best practices for mounting and using abrasive wheels safely.

There are no entry requirements for this course.

Learners must pass a multiple-choice assessment to receive a certificate recognising completion of this awareness course. 

This is a non-accredited course. It does not result in a formal qualification. A Certificate of Completion is awarded upon successful passing of the assessment.

There's no fixed legal expiry for this training, but the HSE recommends refresher training whenever working conditions, equipment or personnel change. Many organisations choose to renew every 2–3 years as good practice.
