British Safety Council has announced the speakers and host for its International Safety Awards 2025 Gala Dinner, which will take place on 19 June 2025, at the Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington, London.
This year, the event will be hosted by adventurer James Cracknell OBE, the celebrated former Olympic Rower, and the distinguished celebration will honour the winners of British Safety Council’s International Safety Awards. Since retiring from competitive rowing in 2006, James has completed many dangerous and gruelling challenges, using his passion for adventure and fitness to front successful campaigns to get the nation moving. In 2010, James attempted to cross America by cycling, running, rowing and swimming from LA to New York in record time. During this trip James suffered a near fatal accident after being struck in the head from behind by a truck while cycling through Arizona. Subsequently, in 2019 James made history when he became the oldest competitor in the Boat Race, winning alongside his Cambridge teammates and went on to coach the team after their success.
Ahead of the event, which is sponsored by HSI donesafe, Mike Robinson, Chief Executive at British Safety Council, said: “Our prestigious Gala Dinner celebrates the outstanding achievements of the 2025 International Safety Awards winners and includes the exciting announcements of the Sector Award and Free-to-Enter Award winners.
“This year, British Safety Council has partnered with SHW Live, a key fixture in the calendar for health, safety and wellbeing professionals and decision-makers, and we are delighted that our annual ISA Gala Dinner will conclude this wonderful event.
“It is our vision at the British Safety Council that no-one should be injured or made ill through their work – anywhere in the world. By sharing the achievements of the winners of these awards, we can inspire other employers everywhere to follow their lead and give workers’ health, safety and wellbeing the priority it rightly deserves.”
Delivering the keynote address on the night will be Safety Psychologist and MD of Anker and Marsh, Dr. Tim Marsh. Dr. Marsh is considered a world authority on the subject of behavioural safety, safety leadership and organisational culture, and will give insights into some of the key events in his distinguished career, as well as the impetus behind his recent book, Wisdom and Wit From a Safety Psychologist, co-published with British Safety Council.
As well as the three-course meal, live entertainment and certificate presentations with official photos, each ticket for the International Safety Awards Gala Dinner receives a VIP ticket to SHW Live, including access to the events, the main conference programme, and networking drinks.
Now in their 67th year, the International Safety Awards recognise and celebrate organisations from around the world which have demonstrated to the satisfaction of the scheme’s independent judges their commitment to preventing workplace injuries and work-related ill health during the previous calendar year. The awards also acknowledge organisations that have shown commitment to wellbeing and mental health at work.
In 2025, 789 organisations won an International Safety Award. They span all sectors with significant representation from the construction, manufacturing, oil, gas, mining, power and utility sectors. Winners were drawn from 45 countries worldwide. 212 organisations were awarded a Distinction, 371 organisations were awarded a Merit and 206 organisations achieved a Pass.
