A Big Step Forward
On 17 July 2025, the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) officially became the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP).
Why the change? Because the world of sustainability has grown, and the name needed to grow with it.
ISEP still does everything IEMA was known for—qualifications, training, professional development, and thought leadership—but now with a name that better reflects today’s sustainability profession.
What’s Changing?
The most obvious change: the name.
- From: Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA)
- To: Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP)
This shift signals a broader, more inclusive identity—one that represents professionals working not just in compliance and assessment, but across business, policy, and society.
Other updates you’ll notice:
- New website: www.isepglobal.org
- New email addresses:
- Old: [email protected]
- New: [email protected]
- Rebranded resources and materials – all training, visuals, and certificates now carry the ISEP name.
It’s about creating a clear, universal identity that works for members and partners around the world.
What’s Staying the Same?
Not everything is changing—far from it.
- Courses and qualifications stay exactly the same.
- Your past IEMA certifications remain valid and respected worldwide.
- Training quality and credibility aren’t going anywhere.
So while the logo and name are different, the learning experience and recognition you trust remain unchanged.
Why the Change?
Sustainability has moved on. It’s no longer just about managing compliance—it’s about driving strategy, climate action, and system-level change.
ISEP is here to:
- Support professionals at every career stage
- Strengthen the voice of the sustainability sector
- Empower individuals and organisations to create real impact
In short: the new name reflects the bigger, more strategic role sustainability professionals play today.
What Does This Mean for British Safety Council Learners?
We currently offer three courses that carried the IEMA branding:
- Foundation Certificate in Sustainability and Environmental Management – A solid starting point if you’re new to the field, or the perfect refresher if you’re looking to grow your career in sustainability. You’ll gain practical tools, techniques, and insights into environmental principles, legislation, and management practices—and learn how to put them into action in your workplace.
- Net Zero – Designed for supervisors and managers who want to turn knowledge into action. This course helps you shape a clear net-zero strategy for your organisation, while building confidence in applying best practices to tackle the climate crisis.
- Sustainability for Managers – Take a step back and see the bigger picture. This course gives you both a strategic and hands-on view of sustainability in your industry. You’ll leave with the skills to boost your influence and drive meaningful change right across the value chain.
From now on, these courses will be delivered under the ISEP brand. Other than the name and logo, nothing changes. Your learning journey and qualifications remain exactly the same—and equally recognised.
What Does This Mean for You?
The short answer: not much.
- Your membership transfers automatically.
- Your IEMA qualifications remain valid.
- Your certificates will now carry the ISEP name.
That’s it. Smooth, simple, and seamless.
✅ The bottom line: Same trusted organisation, same respected qualifications—just with a new name that better reflects the future of sustainability.
