Company

At the British Safety Council, we believe that no one should be injured or made ill through their work. For almost 70 years, we have worked with organisations around the world to improve workplace health, safety and wellbeing, helping people return home safe and healthy every day. As we approach our 70th anniversary in 2027, this is an exciting time to join our Board of Trustees and help shape the next chapter of our organisation.

We are seeking a new Trustee with experience in investment management to join our Board. This appointment follows the completion of a Trustee's term and provides an opportunity to continue the valuable oversight of the British Safety Council's investment fund.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Bring significant experience in investment management.
  • Help oversee the external management of the British Safety Council's investment fund, providing constructive challenge and independent oversight where appropriate.
  • Offer independent judgement and constructive challenge in Board discussions.
  • Contribute to good governance and the long-term sustainability of the organisation.
  • Build positive relationships with fellow Trustees, Executive Directors and senior leaders.
  • Represent the British Safety Council with professionalism, integrity and credibility.
  • Champion our purpose and live our values of Human, Courage, Inclusivity and Commitment.

Whilst experience within the charity or health and safety sectors is not necessary, we are looking for someone with a genuine interest in supporting an organisation that creates positive impact.

Time commitment

This is an unremunerated voluntary Trustee appointment. The Board meets approximately four times a year, with meetings held both virtually and in person. Trustees also attend an annual strategy session and may occasionally participate in Board committees or other events.

Why join us?

As a Trustee, you will help influence the future direction of an organisation that has been improving workplace health, safety and wellbeing since 1957. Working alongside an experienced Board and Executive team, you will use your expertise to help ensure the organisation remains well-governed, financially sustainable, and able to continue making a positive impact for workers across the UK and internationally.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and are committed to building a diverse Board that reflects the communities and organisations we serve. If you would like to use your experience to make a meaningful difference, we would love to hear from you.
