Course information

Fire Warden at Work is one of several short courses that is included for FREE with a British Safety Council Membership. You will receive 100 e-learning licenses each year.

Course overview

Fire Warden at Work is divided into two interactive modules:

Module 1 – The principles of fire. Learners discover how and why fires start and how they spread through buildings. They examine the principles of fire prevention and fire protection including detection and alarm, means of escape, means for fighting a fire and emergency evacuation arrangements.

Module 2 – Functions of a fire warden. This module covers the typical functions of a fire warden including assisting with fire risk assessments, carrying out fire safety inspections and helping with emergency evacuations.  Learners follow the story of a fire warden as she reacts to hearing an alarm. 

Learning outcomes

On completion, learners will be able to:

  • Discover how and why fires start and how they spread through buildings.
  • Examine means of escape, means for fighting a fire and emergency evacuation arrangements

Learners must pass a multiple-choice assessment to receive a certificate recognising completion of this awareness course.

Qualification level

This is a non-accredited course. It does not result in a formal qualification. A Certificate of Completion is awarded upon successful passing of the assessment.
