Learning outcomes
This self-paced Manual Handling Risk Assessment course is designed to give learners a strong foundation in risk assessment and the confidence to contribute effectively to manual handling risk assessing activities. It can also be used as a refresher for responsible persons.
The course raises awareness of how to carry out a suitable and sufficient manual handling risk assessment in a small, low-hazard workplace. Learners will be guided through the five steps of risk assessment, how to identify and assess manual handling activities, the types of harm associated with manual handling, and how to apply a risk matrix and appropriate control measures to reduce risk.
On completion of the course, learners will be able to:
- Understand the importance of manual handling risk assessments
- Identify hazards and risks associated with manual handling activities
- Understand the principles of controlling risks arising from manual handling
- Understand and demonstrate how a manual handling risk assessment is undertaken in practice.

Assessment and results
At the end of the course you will need to complete a multiple-choice assessment and an interactive risk assessment activity, which will test your knowledge and understanding of the manual handling risk assessment process.
Qualification level
This is a non-accredited course. It does not result in a formal qualification.
