Stephen is MRC Clinical Professor at the University of Southampton with interested in the mechanisms and treatment of asthma. He has published >1000 peer review outputs. He was the inaugural chair of the DH Committee on the Medical Effects of Air Pollution, Chair of the DEFRA Expert Panel on Air Quality Standards and a Member of the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution. He led the RCP/RCPH 2016 Report Every Breath we Take… and the 2020 RCPCH/RCP Report The Inside story…. He is currently PI of the UKRI Clean Air Champion programme overseeing a £42.5m investment in air pollution research and is Special Advisor to the RCP on Air Quality. He was appointed CBE in 2011 for his contributions to Clinical Science and Knighted in 2020 for Medical Research.
