Entry Level Award in Workplace Hazard Awareness qualification is vital when you consider that a young person is seriously injured in a UK workplace every 40 minutes. These injuries are invariably caused by lack of proper supervision or training.
The British Safety Council accepts entries from learners who have yet to reach their 14th birthday. Centre approval is free of charge to organisations delivering our qualifications to 14-19-year-olds in full-time education.
No age restriction applies. This awareness course is equally applicable to adult learners with few or no qualifications and has been designed to offer flexibility in terms of teaching and assessment. It may be delivered as a separate programme or integrated into a broader course of study such as a Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE) or work-related learning programme.

What does it cover?
Entry Level Award in Workplace Hazard Awareness qualification raises young people’s awareness of important health and safety issues. It covers a range of aspects including the identification and recognition of health and safety hazards, safety and warning signs, and personal protective equipment – from using protective clothing to lifting heavy items, handling hazardous materials and keeping themselves and others healthy and safe.
The means of assessment are extremely flexible. Learners will create a project-based portfolio of evidence that will improve their awareness of potential hazards within their chosen environment. The course is designed with young candidates in mind and does not feel like a pressurised (potentially alienating) exam.
Unlike an exam, the Approved Centre provides a flexible programme which can take place over an extended time period.
How does it work?
Approved Centres register their learners and subsequently deliver the learning (recommended three-four hours, depending on the learner). The learners then complete their assessment over a designated period. The Centres mark the work and submit a sample to the British Safety Council for moderation, which we assign externally. The process is then completed and results and certificates are issued.
