NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction (UK)
The Health and Safety Management for Construction qualification (NC) is aimed at managers, supervisors and anybody who manages construction health and safety as part of their duties within their organisation.
The NC qualifications makes an excellent continued professional development (CPD) for health and safety professionals working in other industries or looking to move into construction.
The NC looks at construction workplace health and safety issues and can be applied in many sectors. On completion of the qualification, you will be able to:
- Advice on duties and manage construction risks under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
- Justify the need for health and safety improvements
- Produce or contribute to a construction phase plan
- Help their organisation to manage contractors
- Positively influence health and safety culture and behaviour
- Carry out a risk assessment of a construction site and manage a range of construction hazards
- Recognise workplace changes and their impacts and understand how to minimise these impacts
- Develop basic safe systems of work that include emergency arrangements and know when to use a permit-to-work system
- Take part in incident investigations.

NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction has one assessment. An Open Book Exam (OBE) which can be taken at a location of your choice remotely, such as at home or a workplace.

Assessment
The NC has one unit assessment (OBE) which a ‘Pass’ (45%) must be achieved in this unit in order to be awarded the qualification.
Open Book Examination (OBE) based on a fictional construction site, which includes theoretical and practical application questions and a scenario-based risk assessment exercise. (approximately 4 hours within a 48 hour window).
Qualification Level
The NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety is accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) at Level 6 in the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF). For users in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, this is comparable to a vocationally-related qualification (VRQ) at Level 3 in the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). A Level 3 VRQ is comparable (in academic terms) to an A-Level.
Professional Recognition
NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction (UK) Certificate is an accepted qualification for the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Academically Qualified Person Card.
Language Requirements
Assessments are available in English only.
The standard of English required by candidates must be such that they can both understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.
NEBOSH recommends that non-native speakers undertaking this qualification should have a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests in order to be accepted on to the NEBOSH Diploma programme. Enrolment Period
When you start the course, we enrol you as a student with NEBOSH. Your initial enrolment period lasts for 5 years. This means that you must pass your unit within 5 years. If you fail to pass your unit within 5 years, you will need to re-enrol and pay another registration fee.
Learning Agreement
You are about to embark on a challenging programme of study, but one which should enhance your knowledge and understanding of health and safety management as well as your professional status.
The British Safety Council will:
- Use suitably qualified and experienced tutors to deliver the tuition
- Cover all the specification learning outcomes
- Provide or direct you to all the information you need to pass the qualification
- Provide you with expert advice on revision and examination technique
- Respond in a timely manner to any queries
- Be diligent and courteous at all times.
You must:
- Attend all scheduled sessions. (If you cannot attend a session, you can watch the recording)
- Contribute to group discussions in a positive manner
- Endeavour to be active, rather than passive in terms of learning
- Complete the required number of revision hours
- Pay particular attention to advice regarding revision and examination technique
- Bring any learning difficulties to our attention at the earliest opportunity

Results and Certificates
Results are issued 10 weeks after the assessment date.
