Partners from a variety of sectors across Europe, including companies and associations in both the public and private sectors, have pledged their support to a campaign to manage dangerous substances at work.
Running over 2018-2019, The Healthy Workplaces Manage Dangerous Substances campaign has been created by The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA).
Safety Management, media partner in the UK, has lent its support alongside 100 organisations and businesses across Europe who have joined the campaign.
With chemical or biological substances present in 38 per cent of enterprises in Europe according to EU-OSHA research, the campaign seeks to raise awareness of the continuing relevance of managing dangerous substances.
It also seeks to provide straightforward guidance on the legislative framework and provide practical tools and examples of good practice to support businesses in managing dangerous substances.
Dr Christa Sedlatschek, Director of EU-OSHA, commented: “Exposure to dangerous substances must be eliminated or effectively managed to ensure the safety and health of workers and the economic success of businesses and society.”
She urged more firms to join their cause: “By joining the campaign, the partners can improve their own practices, benefiting from the campaign’s wealth of good practice materials and the excellent opportunities for networking and sharing experiences.”

HSE could use its powers to shut businesses down if they fail to take measures to protect the health and welfare of their staff during the coronavirus pandemic, its chief executive Sarah Albon has said.
