All food catering businesses have a legal responsibility to train their staff in matters of food hygiene. A high standard of food safety protects consumers' health and helps to maintain the reputation of the business.
This is a free-standing qualification designed for delivery as a short programme that is also well-suited for integration into wider vocational programmes of study. It assumes no prior knowledge or experience and learners will come from a diverse range of food businesses and educational backgrounds.

What does it cover?
Level 3 Award in Food Safety Supervision in Catering covers topics including legislation, good hygiene practice, cleaning and disinfection procedures, the importance of traceability, and the consequences for food safety from microbial, chemical and physical and allergenic hazards.
It also covers the role of supervision in food safety management procedures, the role of staff training, and the requirements for induction and on-going training of staff.
How does it work?
Learning materials are provided to Approved Centres who subsequently deliver the training (recommended at least 18 hours). Centres then request the examination – available either online or paper-based – on a date and time of their choosing. The results of online examinations are available immediately while paper-based results and certificates are issued within five working days of receipt.
