All food manufacturing businesses have a legal responsibility to train their staff in matters of food hygiene. A high standard of food safety protects consumers' health and helps to maintain the reputation of the business.
This is a free-standing qualification designed for delivery as a short programme that is also well-suited for integration into wider vocational programmes of study. It assumes no prior knowledge or experience and learners will come from a diverse range of food manufacturing businesses and educational backgrounds.

What does it cover?
Level 2 Award in Food Safety for Manufacturing focuses on the importance of personal responsibility for food safety and the legal responsibilities of food handlers and food business operators. The programme covers the importance of personal hygiene in food safety and teaches effective practices, including the procedures around protective clothing, hand washing and personal illnesses.
The course covers the importance of pest control and the sources and risks to food safety from contamination and cross contamination. The qualification also includes stock control procedures (deliveries, storage, date marking and stock rotation) and teaches learners how to deal with food spoilage including recognition, reporting and disposal.
How does it work?
Learning materials are provided to Approved Centres who subsequently deliver the training (recommended six hours). Centres then request the examination – available either online or paper-based – on a date and time of their choosing. The results of online examinations are available immediately while paper-based results and certificates are issued within five working days of receipt.
