The British Safety Council has awarded the esteemed Sword of Honour and Globe of Honour Awards for exemplary management of health, safety and environmental risks to businesses. The winning organisations in 2020 came from a wide range of industry sectors in the UK, Europe, India and the Middle East, including construction, energy generation, manufacturing, hospitality, facilities management, housing, retail and transport.
The 66 Sword of Honour and eight Globe of Honour winners were able to demonstrate to an independent adjudication panel a proven track record of excellence in managing risks to workers’ health and safety and/or to the environment from the organisations’ activities.
Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, said: “The Sword of Honour and Globe of Honour awards are the most distinguished accolades in our industry. They recognise and reward organisations from all over the world that have reached the peak of health and safety, or environmental management, or both, in the case of a very small number of companies.
“I would like to congratulate the winning organisations and their staff for their steadfast dedication to keeping their workplace safe and healthy and/or minimising risks to the environment from their organisations’ day-to-day activities. 2020 presented an additional and significant challenge in the form of COVID-19 and I commend all the winners for their hard work and commitment through these challenging circumstances.”
“I celebrate with the winners their really tremendous achievements knowing that they set the standards for the rest of the world in terms of health, safety and environmental management, and increasingly also workplace wellbeing. We are delighted that they are partners in helping achieve our vision that no-one should be injured or made ill through their work.”
Lawrence Waterman, Chairman of the British Safety Council, said: “On behalf of the board of trustees and staff of the British Safety Council, I would like to congratulate the winners on achieving the topmost standards of health, safety and environmental management. Accomplishing such distinction takes real commitment and professionalism. We are delighted to have supported the winning organisations’ achievements in what has been an unprecedented year given the COVID pandemic and one where managing uncertainty has become the new normal.”
“The winners of Swords and Globes have implemented the ingredients for success: they have the right values, prioritise the health, safety and wellbeing of their employees; and put the future of our planet at the core of what they do. They are a shining example to us all.”
