BSC Seminars Go Down a Treat at Health and Safety 09 Show

Date: Monday 6 April 2009

With over 1,300 visitors attending the Health and Safety 09 Southern Expo held at Sandown Park in Surrey recently, the event has been hailed as a great success. This year’s expo was extra-special, as it marked the beginning of the BSC’s new role as the show’s educational partner.

There were eight seminars, which proved very popular, covering a range of issues including: the ‘Constructing Better Health’ initiative run in the building industry; the impact of the new corporate manslaughter law; the many benefits of worker involvement in health and safety; HSE’s new asbestos campaign; the role of the modern health and safety practitioner; working at height; HSE’s Shattered Lives campaign; and noise control techniques.

The most powerful endorsement of the growing success of the events’ format and regional location came from the visitors themselves. Richard Hogden, a health and safety manager at Kent County Council, said: “The seminars cover a good range of subjects and as well as the event being informative, you also get to see new products. Plus, it’s only 18 miles away from us.”

Brian Nimick, BSC chief executive, commented: “The number of people attending the seminars partnered by the BSC considerably exceeded our expectations. This is a reflection of the interest and commitment of the audience, the relevance of the topics and the calibre of the speakers.

“We know from the feedback that many of those who attended gained a great deal and have identified measures they could put in place to better manage risks in their workplaces.”

All of the presentations are now accessible via the Health and Safety 09 and the BSC’s websites.

Brian added: “We now look forward to the Health and Safety 09 Northern Expo in Bolton on 6-7 October 2009, which we are sure will be another success. Put the date in your diary now.”
