The Event
The British Safety Council is holding its next Breakfast Briefing for member organisations and their staff at the Ramada Hotel, Shaws Bridge, Belfast, Northern Ireland, on Wednesday 10th February 2010 from 09.00 - 11.00am.
The programme has been designed to update and inform BSC member organisations from business, public and the third sector in Northern Ireland on key health, safety and environmental management developments.
The keynote speakers at the event are Peter McKie, Chairman, HSENI together with Tom Stephenson, HSE Manager, Balcas Timber Ltd, Enniskillen, Karen Louden, BSC's Northern Ireland Manager and Neal Stone, BSC's Head of Policy & Public Affairs.
This breakfast briefing, which follows hard on the heels of successful events in Bolton, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and London is aimed at directors, managers, supervisors, safety representatives, health and safety managers and practitioners, risk advisers and others who have a key role to play in helping prevent workplace injury and ill-health and promoting effective environmental management.
This event provides a great opportunity not only to network with other member organisations from a wide range of industries, to share knowledge and celebrate best practice. You will also have the opportunity to question the expert panel of speakers from BSC, business and the regulator on issues of concern to you and your organisation.
Registration price
Book before Tuesday 26th January 2010 and you will save on the registration fee. For early bird bookings, the price is £40 for BSC member organisations and £50 for other delegates. The registration fee for the event after this date will be £60 for BSC member organisations and £70 for other delegates. All prices are VAT exclusive.

- 1. Major health and safety challenges facing employers in Northern Ireland
- Peter will major on the importance of leadership when it comes to being effective in health and safety management . He will also provide a strategic view of the future regarding health and safety in Northern Ireland.
- 2. Effective environmental management - top tips
- Speaker - to be confirmed. This session will help those attending better understand the major environmental management challenges employers are facing in tough economic times and provide up-to-date, expert advice about effective and affordable measures that can easily be put in place to improve how they can play their part. Climate change will have a profound impact upon all member organisations. Good environmental management can also make a difference to businesses during the recession.
- 3. Young workers and the risk of injury in the workplace
- BSC's Neal Stone will address the particular risks faced by young people entering the world of work. This session will detail the work being undertaken by the British Safety Council in Northern Ireland to help young people between the ages of 14-19 in full time education prepare for the workplace risks they will face and BSC?s support to help them gain a valuable health and safety qualification.
- 4.Case study - Balcas Timber Ltd
- Tom Stephenson, HSE Manager, Balcas Timber Ltd, will set out his company's approach to the management of risks to health and safety across their growing business and their success in driving improvements. Balcas winners of BSC's prestigious Sword of Honour in 2009 and BSC's Northern Ireland Manager Karen Louden will share their experience of the benefits BSC training, audit and qualifications have had in promoting a positive approach to health and safety and the higher standards of performance that result.
