The Event

The British Safety Council is holding its second Breakfast Briefing of 2010 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne on Tuesday 1st June. The British Safety Council has put together a programme for the event that covers major health, safety and environmental issues impacting on businesses, public and third sector organisations.

This breakfast briefing, which follows hard on the heels of successful events in Edinburgh, Aberdeen, London and Belfast, is aimed at directors, managers, supervisors, safety representatives, health and safety managers and practitioners, risk advisers and others who have a key role to play in helping prevent workplace injury and ill-health.

This event provides a great opportunity to network with other member organisations, including British Safety Council 2009 Sword of Honour winner McNulty Offshore, and share best practice. You will also have the opportunity to question the panel of speakers on issues of concern to you and your organisation.

Registration price

Book before Tuesday 18th May and you will save on the registration fee. For early bird bookings, the price is £47 for BSC member organisations and £58 for other delegates. The registration fee for the event after this date will be £70.50 for BSC member organisations and £82.50 for other delegates. All prices are VAT exclusive.

Agenda

1. Brief update on health and safety
Neal Stone's introduction will include : application and impact of the new Corporate Manslaughter/Corporate Homicide law; outline measures in place to promote director responsibility; update on public consultations on health and safety and on developments concerning the accreditation of health and safety practitioners.

2. Good environmental management - top tips
Phil Dorr will help those attending better understand the major environmental management challenges employers are facing in tough economic times and provide up-to-date, expert advice about effective and affordable measures that can easily be put in place to improve their performance. Climate change will have a profound impact upon all member organisations. Good environmental management can also make a difference to businesses during the recession.

3. Case study featuring British Safety Council member organisation's approach to the management of health and safety covering leadership, training, competence and communications
Sasha Keyworth, HSE Manager, McNulty Offshore Construction Ltd, will set out her company's approach to the management of risks to health and safety across their business and their success in. McNulty Offshore Construction Ltd, winner of BSC's prestigious Sword of Honour in 2009, and BSC's Steph Coetzer and Eddie Rowley will share their experience of the benefits BSC training, audit and qualifications have had in promoting a positive approach to health and safety and the higher standards of performance that result.

4. The benefits of worker involvement
Nigel Bryson believes that people support what they help create and that effective worker involvement improves both safety standards and business performance. Using examples from successful case studies Nigel will present key methods and techniques for creating effective worker involvement.

5. Workplace health and well-being
Samantha Kee, an occupational health practitioner and chartered physiotherapist, will set out the components that are key to the successful promotion of well-being at work. She will also set out what employers need to do to effectively manage sickness absence and what individual workers need to do to look after themselves.
