Charitable aims from the BSC

Free health and safety qualifications for BSC members

Each year, the BSC offers each of our 8,000 member organisations 100 free examinations leading to the BSC Level 1 Certificate in Health and Safety at Work. The aim is to recognise health and safety induction training in the form of a nationally recognised qualification. Over 1,600 companies, ranging from multinationals to SMEs, have taken up the BSC's offer and use the Level 1 qualification to help promote a positive health and safety culture in their organisations. Free health and safety qualifications for 14-19 year olds

A young person is seriously injured in a UK workplace every 40 minutes. In the last ten years, 66 under-19s have been killed at work. In the biggest ever drive to protect young workers, the BSC is paying for all 14-19 year olds in full-time education in the UK to gain a proper qualification in health and safety before they embark on work experience or their first job.

Over 1,800 secondary schools have registered for the BSC Entry Level Award in Workplace Hazard Awareness which counts towards school performance points. Click here to find out more.

The BSC is also offering discounted Level 1 examinations to schools and colleges at just £5 per candidate.
